Road to YPP — type your Studio numbers
580 subs to go
2,650 hours to go
You need 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 long-form watch hours or 10 million Shorts views. Then YouTube reviews the channel by hand.
What YPP is
The YouTube Partner Program is the agreement that lets YouTube share revenue with you. Being "in YPP" turns on several earning tools, each with its own rules:
- Watch page ads on long-form videos — 55% of net ad revenue goes to you.
- Shorts Feed ads — pooled revenue, 45% of your allocated share.
- Channel memberships — monthly fan subscriptions.
- Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks — viewer tips during lives, Premieres and on videos.
- YouTube Shopping — tagging products, including from affiliate programmes in India.
- YouTube Premium revenue — a share of Premium subscription fees when Premium members watch you.
The lower "early access" tier opens fan funding and Shopping but not ads. Full tier opens everything.
Step 1: Get eligible
You need 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public watch hours (last 365 days) or 10 million valid Shorts views (last 90 days). The full checklist — including 2-step verification and AdSense rules — is on the requirements page. Studio → Earn shows your progress with only the valid numbers.
Step 2: Apply in Studio
- Open YouTube Studio → Earn.
- Click Apply and accept the base terms.
- Connect AdSense. You'll be sent to AdSense to sign in or create an account. Use your legal name as it appears on your PAN and bank account. If you already have AdSense, connect that one.
- Wait for review. "In review" is normal for weeks.
Step 3: The review
A person on YouTube's team looks at your channel's main theme, most-viewed videos, newest videos and the "About" section, then checks against the monetization policies. They're looking for originality, value added to anything you've borrowed, and genuine traffic.
You'll get an email either way. Approved channels can turn on ads straight away. Rejected channels get a reason — "reused content" is the most common in India — and can re-apply after 30 days. See rejection reasons and fixes.
Step 4: Turn on earning features
After approval, turn on the modules you want in Earn → Ads, Shorts, Memberships, Supers, Shopping. Then:
- Set ad formats in upload defaults. Mid-roll ads only run on videos 8 minutes or longer, and you place them yourself or let YouTube choose.
- Check old videos for music or clips that would trigger a claim. Claimed videos share revenue with the rights holder.
- Review advertiser-friendly status (the yellow dollar). Swearing in the first 30 seconds, violence or controversial topics limit ads.
Step 5: AdSense and payments in India
- PIN verification. At $10 of earnings, Google posts a PIN to your address. Enter it in AdSense. Indian Post delivery can take two to four weeks; you can ask for a resend after three weeks.
- Tax info. Submit the US tax form in AdSense. Without it, withholding on US-viewer earnings is higher.
- Bank account. Add your account and IFSC. Google sends a small test deposit to verify it.
- Threshold. $100. When the month-end balance crosses it, payment goes out around the 21st.
Your bank will credit rupees at its conversion rate. Some banks ask for a purpose code for the inward remittance; for YouTube income it is usually a service export code — your bank will tell you which.
What Indian channels actually earn
RPM (revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube's share) varies a lot. Rough patterns for Indian audiences:
| Niche | Typical Indian-audience RPM range |
|---|---|
| Finance, stock market, insurance | ₹40–₹150 |
| Tech reviews, gadgets | ₹25–₹80 |
| Education, exam prep | ₹15–₹50 |
| Vlogs, entertainment | ₹8–₹30 |
| Shorts (all niches) | ₹1–₹10 |
These are ranges, not promises. RPM drops in January and climbs in October–December with festive ad spend. Try your numbers in the money calculator.
Staying in YPP
- Upload or post at least every few months; inactive channels can be removed.
- Keep strikes away. Three copyright strikes deletes the channel.
- Don't buy traffic to monetized videos. Invalid traffic can lead to clawbacks of earnings and removal from YPP.
That last point is worth being plain about: YTBoost sells growth services, and the place they make sense is before a channel has any audience. Once you're monetized, don't send purchased views to monetized videos.
