Why your video got 0 views after upload (and what to check)

By YTBoost Team · Updated

Uploading a video you worked on for days and seeing "0 views" the next morning is demoralising. Before assuming the algorithm hates you, go through these checks in order. Most cases are one of the first four.

1. Is it actually public?

Open YouTube Studio → Content and check the Visibility column. Scheduled videos, unlisted videos and videos stuck as "Private" after upload are more common than you'd think — especially when uploading from the phone app, which sometimes defaults to the last setting used.

2. Has processing finished?

HD and 4K versions can take a while to process. Until SD processing finishes, the video may not be served widely. Check for a "Processing" label in Studio.

3. Is it marked "made for kids"?

Made-for-kids videos lose comments, notifications and some recommendation surfaces. If your video isn't for children, change the audience setting. Our video info lookup shows the current setting.

4. Any restrictions or claims?

Studio → Content → Restrictions shows age restrictions, copyright claims and limited ads. A Content ID claim that blocks the video in India means Indian viewers simply can't see it. Copyright music is the usual cause.

5. Are you getting impressions?

In the video's analytics, look at Impressions. If impressions are near zero, YouTube isn't showing the video — usually because it's new, the channel has few viewers to test with, or the topic doesn't match anything people are looking for. If impressions are in the hundreds but views are tiny, the thumbnail and title aren't working (CTR is low).

6. Does anyone search for this?

Type your main phrase into YouTube search and watch the autocomplete. If nothing similar appears, few people search for it. Reword the title using the words viewers actually type — often Hinglish.

7. Did your subscribers see it?

Small channels' first views mostly come from subscribers and from sharing. Post a community update, share the link in relevant WhatsApp or Telegram groups (where it's welcome), and reply to comments on your older videos pointing to the new one.

What not to do

  • Don't delete and re-upload hoping for a fresh start. It throws away any history and can look like spam if repeated.
  • Don't change the title ten times in a day. Give each change 48 hours.

If you just need it to stop looking empty

A small views order gets a new video past zero so real visitors don't skip it. It's a cosmetic fix: it won't change impressions or CTR, and it carries policy risk. Fix the checks above first.

Frequently asked questions

How long before views should appear?

On a public video, a few views usually appear within hours. The public counter can lag; Studio's Realtime card is more current.

Will buying views fix a 0-view video?

It changes the counter so the video doesn't look abandoned. It won't make YouTube recommend it — that depends on how real viewers respond.
