"1 lakh views pe kitna milta hai?" is probably the most-asked YouTube question in India. The honest answer is a range — and the range is wide, because two Hindi channels with identical views can earn ten times different amounts.
The formula
Earnings = (views ÷ 1,000) × RPM
RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views after YouTube's share, across all views (including ones that showed no ad). So the whole question comes down to RPM.
Typical RPM for Hindi long-form channels
| Niche | RPM for mostly Indian viewers | Per 1 lakh views |
|---|---|---|
| Finance, stock market, insurance | ₹40–₹150 | ₹4,000–₹15,000 |
| Tech, gadgets | ₹25–₹80 | ₹2,500–₹8,000 |
| Education, exam prep | ₹15–₹50 | ₹1,500–₹5,000 |
| Cooking, lifestyle | ₹12–₹35 | ₹1,200–₹3,500 |
| Vlogs, entertainment, comedy | ₹8–₹30 | ₹800–₹3,000 |
| Music | ₹5–₹20 | ₹500–₹2,000 |
These are ranges we see quoted by Indian creators, not promises. Your Studio Revenue tab is the only real figure.
Shorts are a different world
For Shorts, Indian creators commonly see ₹1–₹10 per 1,000 eligible views — so ₹100–₹1,000 per lakh. A Short with 10 lakh views might earn what a long video with 50,000 views earns. Try both in the money calculator and Shorts calculator.
Why the same views earn differently
- Niche. Advertisers pay more to reach people about to buy insurance than people watching comedy.
- Viewer location. A Hindi channel with 15% viewers in the US, UK or Gulf can see RPM double.
- Video length. Videos over 8 minutes can carry mid-roll ads.
- Season. October–December is high (festive and year-end ad budgets); January is low.
- Advertiser-friendliness. Swearing, violence or controversial topics get limited ads.
A realistic example
A Hindi personal-finance channel posts a 14-minute video on tax-saving options in January. It gets 1 lakh views, 70% of which show ads. RPM for the month is ₹55. Earnings: about ₹5,500. The same channel's December video with similar views might earn ₹7,000–₹8,000.
A Hindi comedy channel with a 4-minute sketch at 1 lakh views and an RPM of ₹12 earns about ₹1,200.
What this means for planning
If you're choosing a niche purely for money, finance, tech and education pay best — but they're also crowded and trust-driven. Most creators earn more by being very good in a niche they genuinely know than by chasing RPM.
