YouTube shows the first three hashtags above your title and ignores all of them if you use more than 60. Put the most specific three first.
How to use it
Type your topic (or several, comma-separated) and copy the hashtags. Paste the three most specific ones into the description — YouTube shows the first three above your title — or into the title itself for Shorts.
Where hashtags appear
- Above the title: the first three hashtags from the description.
- In the title: hashtags in the title are clickable and replace the ones above it.
- Hashtag pages: clicking a hashtag opens a feed of videos using it. Specific hashtags (#tallyprime) have a better chance of putting you near the top than broad ones (#education).
The limits
More than 60 hashtags on a video and YouTube ignores all of them. Misleading or unrelated hashtags can get a video removed under the spam policy. Three to five good ones is enough.
Frequently asked questions
Do hashtags help Shorts get views?
A little, mainly through hashtag pages. The Shorts feed is driven by how viewers respond, not hashtags.
Should I use #shorts?
It's no longer required for a video to count as a Short, but it doesn't hurt.
Hindi hashtags or English?
Use the script your audience searches in. Many use Roman-script Hinglish.
